Electric cars to significantly reduce carbon footprint only from 2040

According to a study by the Berlin climate research institute MCC and the University of Newcastle, electric cars will only be able to significantly improve the climate balance after 2040 if they are operated and manufactured largely on green electricity. In order to reduce CO2 emissions in the transport sector in the short term, politicians must push ahead with the energy revolution, increase fuel taxes based on mileage and encourage the switch to public transport and bicycles.
