Innovation in batteries and electricity storage

According to the European Patent Office, the number of worldwide patents for power storage technologies increased by an average of 14% annually from 2005 to 2018, four times faster than the average growth in patents for all other technologies. Battery technology accounted for almost 90 per cent of the patents for power storage with Asian companies leading the charge.
