Battery specialist Akasol plans new U.S. factory

Plans that first circulated at this year’s IAA, have now been officially confirmed by battery system manufacturer Akasol. The German firm will be setting up battery production in the USA with production to begin at the end of 2019 with a capacity of 300 MWh.

Swedish utility Vattenfall has been increasing their efforts to take their share of the electric car charging market. Their InCharge network is on course for expansion in Europe and their latest driver to take charge of Germany is the former EVBox employee Fermin Bustamante.

Seat coming to China with VW gearing up for growth

Volkswagen’s Spanish subsidiary Seat will enter China by hooking onto the JAC Volkswagen joint venture. Together the three plan to establish a R&D centre for electric vehicles. Development is to culminate in a dedicated electric car platform for China and beyond in 2021.

Daimler has appointed Katrin Adt to lead the Smart brand into its electric future as she will succeed Annette Winkler this September. Like Winkler, Adt is a Daimler veteran and has held leading positions since 1999. Her challenge will be to reverse the trend of falling sales during the time of transition.

Daimler’s Annette Winkler to quit as Smart CEO

Annette Winkler will step down from her post as Smart CEO, handing over responsibility for Daimler’s small car business after eight years. A successor has not been appointed yet but Winkler will only leave on Sept, 30, leaving it to the next generation to complete the brand’s electrification.

Tesla sales president Jon McNeill leaves for Lyft

Now former Tesla president of sales and services, Jon McNeill, has left Tesla for Lyft, where he will begin as Chief Operating Officer. There are no plans thus far concerning a successor, and Elon Musk plans to take over McNeills duties in the meantime.
