ICCT, Fully Charged.

Reading tip: Environmental organisation ICCT has evaluated data of public authorities and other agencies in Europe about 541 diesel cars with Euro 5 and 6 standard. According to their results, Euro 6 diesel cars are in average 4.5 times above the nitrogen oxide limit. Just 10 percent of them stay under the given threshold.

Reading tip: Sweden is the latest country that tries to lure Tesla to come and build its European Gigafactory. The proposal is strong as it includes Saab’s old and now NEVS’ large facility in Trollhattan, that lies almost idle. Plus, it comes with a pool of skilled workers.

Video tip I: Did you know that Thomas Edison already drove electrically? The inventor had a series of electric cars and even an EV charging station in his garage. The latter is being looked at in more detail in the following video.

Video tip II: Robert Llewellyn travelled to France for his show Fully Charged, to take a look at the country’s first solar roadway. He also talks about “lithium anxiety,” so the fear that we could run out of lithium because of all these EVs on the road – which is nonsense.

EV sales in China boom.

A total of 44,000 plug-ins were sold in China in October. And even more impressive: 39,000 were pure electric cars. Overall, that’s an 8.1 percent increase in PEV sales compared to the same time last year.

Renault, Fully Charged.

Reading tip: Renault has a proposition for the Swedish government to boost demand for [its own] EVs in the country – an electric driver’s license. People would learn about EVs’ particularities and EV license holders would in turn be allowed to park and charge for free.

Video tip: In this episode of Fully Charged, Robert Llewellyn takes the Hyundai out for a first spin. And he is “genuinely impressed,” saying that if you are in the market to buy, “this car should definitely be on your list.” Because it is a., cheaper than the Nissan Leaf, but with similar range and b., a lot of fun to drive, as you can see in the video.

Video tip I: Tesla shows how it’s leaving others in the dust, releasing a video of an autonomous test drive in city and interurban traffic. On top of images from the driver’s perspective, it also shows what the car’s cameras see, as well as data collected by the sensors, based on which the car makes its driving decisions.

Researchers found the PEV incentives mainly benefit white, wealthy folks as 83 percent of 98,901 rebate recipients in the period from 2010 to 2015 reported yearly incomes of more than 100,000 dollars.

Fully Charged, ZEV programme.

Video tip: In this episode of Fully Charged, Robert Llewellyn reviews the fully electric Mercedes B250e that takes some learnings from Tesla. He loves the regen control via the paddles on the steering wheels for example. The problem is, Mercedes kept it rather “secret” and the EV does not charge rapid at all.

Research tip: 37bn dollars in health and climate cost could be saved by 2030 in the ten states that adopted California’s ZEV programme, a study by the American Lung Association finds. The report assumes 100% of new car sales and 65% of all cars on the road to be ZEVs by 2050 in the ZEV states.

Video tip I: For Fully Charged, Robert Llewellyn got in the driver’s seat of the Mercedes 305e and loved it. “When you get it right in a car, this is what it looks like,” he says, adding that he would have loved for this plug-in hybrid to be all electric.
