With Suzuki and Mitsubishi two more carmakers from Japan discontinue their diesel lineup in Europe. Suzuki say they will stop selling diesel on the continent before the year’s end. Mitsubishi considers doing the same but starting in key markets such as UK and Germany and possibly France.

Japanese car manufacturers aim to unify battery recycling

Japanese automobile manufacturers have announced plans to launch a project in October, in which old EV batteries will be collected and recycled. Corresponding factories are being set up in seven prefectures: Hokkaido, Akita, Ibaraki, Aichi, Okayama, Hiroshima and Yamaguchi.

Toyota recalls 1 million hybrids worldwide

Due to potential short circuit and fire hazards, Toyota has recalled more than one million hybrid vehicles across the globe. The recall concerns all Toyota Prius of the current generation, including the plug-in version, as well as the hybrid version of the C-HR that were manufactured up to May of this year.

Honda CR-V hybrid version to launch in 2019

Honda has started sales for the new CR-V, which is being offered as a 7-seat version with a hybrid motor for the first time. In Japan, sales begin now, while European markets will have to wait until October 20th. The hybrid version won’t be offered until early 2019, however.

Japan set up a new consortium called ECLAIR for Electrification Challenge for Aircraft – electric planes in other words. Members include the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) as well as industrial heavyweights from Mitsubishi over Kawasaki to Subaru.
