“The global automobile industry is focusing on EVs and biofuel vehicles, while Thailand is a hub for one-tonne pickups and eco-car production. It’s a natural fit for the country to prepare for EV output.”
Thailand’s Science and Technology Minister Pichet Durongkaveroj says that the ministry plans to prepare facilities for EVs and offer investment privileges to attract investors. Mechanical engineering degrees will even include fuel cell training courses.
“A majority part of future investment will be made in the production plant within the joint venture. Trollhättan will always be NEVS headquarters for development of new product. What we aim for is cooperation to start doing electric vehicles for the Chinese market.”
An unnamed spokesman for National Electric Vehicle Sweden confirms the company will open a second production facility in China after securing financial backing of two Chinese companies. Whether production in Sweden will continue remains to be seen.
