Details on AWD hybrid powertrain: Toyota released more details on its TS040 Hybrid racer for Le Mans. By combining a hybrid powertrain from Aisin in the front with a Denso unit at the rear, the TS040 is becoming a powerful AWD race car.

Electric 2-wheeler funding: The Green Cars Initiative, which was part of the Horizon 2020 research program by the European Union, has been renamed to the Green Vehicles Initiative (EGVI) and is now including electric two-wheelers and light vehicles. The EU is willing to spend five to eight million euros on concepts designed to increase efficiency of transport. While regular pedelecs and e-bikes are excluded, speed pedelecs and e-cargo bikes are eligible for funding.

Microporous membrane: A new separator for li-ion batteries by Porous Power Technologies (PPT) called Symmetrix is supposedly safer than conventional polyolefin separators as the company demonstrates in a video showing the nail penetration test. The trick is to cast, not to stretch the polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) used here, according to PPT.
