Staying silent: The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has pushed back a final ruling about electric cars emitting manufactured noise to protect especially blind pedestrians. The Pedestrian Safety Enhancement Act was first signed in 2008 and became law in 2011. Yet the NHTSA will not rule on the issue until the end of year, pushing back compliance until 2018.
Solid-state electrolyte: Samsung and the University of Rome “La Sapienza” have fabricated a Li-S battery with novel solid-state electrolyte. Most of the theoretical capacity of sulfur (1,600 mAhg) was attained in the initial discharge-charge cycles with a high coulombic efficiency approaching 99 percent.
Zipping along on two wheels: Airwheel presented a series of self-balancing all-electric scooters at the boat show Batmassan 2015 in Gothenburg, Sweden. The S3, Q3 and X3 feature lithium-ion battery technology apparently also used by Tesla for its EVs.
