Samsung, Lionano, GinVelo, Melexis.

Samsung leads pack: The company filed 510 car-related patents in the past ten years, most of them related to battery technology. IT and internet companies follow with 308 auto-related patents filed by Google, 222 by Microsoft and 83 by Apple. Many of those include navigation and entertainment systems.

Drop-in anode: Lionano and Cornell University’s Center for Technology Licensing (CTL) have signed a licensing agreement for the development and production of a new hollow structured metal oxide drop-in anode material, said to reduce the volumetric expansion of a conventional anode in Li-ion batteries.

GinzVelo: This Human Electric Hybrid (HEH) bicycle that looks a lot like a space capsule is said to change city traffic. It is technically a bike and the driver still needs to pedal, but is assisted by a 500 watt electric motor. GinzVelo can go as fast as 20 mph and has a range of up to 100 miles. A crowdfunding campaign is underway., (crowdfunding campaign)

New Melexis seonsors: The microelectronics specialist added a new device to its line-up of Hall-effect current sensors, optimized for hybrid and electric vehicles. The devices can accurately measure current, thus making external ferromagnetic cores unnecessary.
