Google-Selfdriving-CarA for Automated: Bloomberg says Google plans to take its self-driving EV operation to the next level, forming a new business unit offering ride hire under the umbrella of the Alphabet mother corporation by 2016. In a first step, electric cars will  likely become available in confined areas like college campuses, military bases or corporate office parks around San Francisco and Austin, Google’s current testing grounds.

Modular battery concept: EU project OSTLER (Optimised storage integration for the electric car) has explored the feasibility of a removable battery pack in a demonstrator vehicle. Tests were successful. Research included crashtests, as well as electrical and thermal system specifications and requirements.

Fuel cell forklifts: Hydrogenics says it secured an order worth 2m dollars from a hydrogen forklift manufacturer requiring fuel cell modules. Deliveries will start early next year. The forklifts by the unnamed manufacturer will go to to large logistics centres throughout the U.S.

H2 station acceleration: The time to commission new hydrogen refueling stations could be reduced from months to just a week with the Hydrogen Station Equipment Performance device (HyStEP). The mobile tool was developed by Sandia National Laboratories and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and mainly serves certification.
