Battery 500, IONICS, MTM, Windbooster Motors.
Battery 500: The IBM Almaden Research Center in California issued a progress report on its project Battery 500. It started back in 2009 with the goal of developing a super metal-air battery that would allow for an electric range of 500 miles (800 km). While the technology is still years away from commercialisation, researchers are confident that it is doable.
Funding approved: The U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) earmarked 30m dollars for their new IONICS programme to develop innovative battery and fuel cell concepts. That includes the development of transformational electrochemical cells and methods for processing of solid ion conductors.
Tuned VW: Tuning firm MTM (Motoren Technik Mayer) has turned a VW Transporter T6 into the new E-Motion hybrid. Fitted with two 15kW electric hub motors, it offers up to 207 kW and 1100Nm of torque. The car can be found at the Geneva Motor Show with a 52,000 euro price tag.
Rivalling Tesla: According to GTSpirit.com, a new electric supercar from Chinese Windbooster Motors may be vying directly with Tesla. First images have been released, while there is little known about the vehicle or production plans.
