During a conference call, Tesla CEO Eleon Musk not only explained his reasoning behind the Tesla-SolarCity merger, he also gave a little bit of a pep talk about the carmaker’s future.
“We are cautious on the deal as synergies seem limited, it adds complexity, and most importantly it could potentially be an unneeded distraction for TSLA.”
While Elon Musk believes the deal between Tesla and SolarCity to be obvious, UBS analyst Colin Langan is a bit more careful. Especially since many Tesla customers already have solar power, so customer acquisition could not be a focus.
“Our hybrid mix exceeds 30 percent and with 50% targeted in the very near future, we can, across both brands, stand behind the view that this is mainstream technology.”
Neil Broad, general manager Toyota and Lexus Fleet Services UK, says the carmaker is on the right track, as Toyota is looking to also cater to fleets more easily.
