“Plug-ins and EVs could grow in parallel. It all depends on the geographical regions and what customers expect.”
Thierry Bolloré, Chief Competitive Officer at Renault, wants to keep his options open. He sees EVs and PHEVs as having huge growth potential, while the cost of batteries for both is dropping.
“We will not have the highest volume, but we strive to have the highest percentage. This commitment is clear. Also, by 2025 we want to sell 1 million electrified cars, this includes plug-in hybrids and full-electric cars.”
Volvo CEO Håkan Samuelsson says that his company wants to stay ahead of the game and “be faster than the shift” to electrification. He sees PHEVs as an “interesting alternative to the diesel engine.”
