Nissan, fire safe batteries, Union Motion

Mobile workspace: Nissan turned its eNV-200 van into a rolling office together with designers from British Studio Hardie. The cargo space was transformed into what they call a WORKSPACe with a fold-out desk, touchscreen computer, wi-fi, wireless phone charging as well as a mini fridge and espresso machine. It is a one-off creation though.

Fire safe batteries: Italian and German researchers from the University of Ferrara and the Helmholtz Institute Ulm replaced the organic solution in a Li-ion battery by a room temperature molten salt. Their solution makes the packs more fire resistant and was supported financially by BMW.

Electric motorbike: UK startup Union Motion makes custom electric motorcycles. Its Phaser Type 1 is based on Yamaha’s FZS 600 Fazer. The electric drive delivers 32 kW continuously and is powered by a 6 kWh battery pack. It provides a range of 60 miles and a top speed of 110 mph.
