thomas-weber“By 2025 we want to develop ten electric cars based on the same architecture. For this push, we want to invest ten billion euros.”

Daimler’s research and development chief Thomas Weber added that three of the ten electric models will be Smart-branded cars, where a range of 150 km will suffice. Other (new) electric cars, however, will be able to go 600 to 700 km on one charge.

Jeff-Guyton“It’s not as though we disapprove of electric or hybrid drivetrains. And electrification will be necessary in the long-term. But we currently focus on making our combustion engines more efficient.”

Jeffrey Guyton, head of Mazda Europe, basically says we shouldn’t get to euphoric about a recent announcement that Mazda will introduce some EVS “where it’s needed in the world” (we reported). It seems Europe is not one of those regions. (in German)

Cynthia-Giles“The ZEV investment requirement will be a business investment made by Volkswagen.”

According to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency enforcement chief Cynthia Giles, VW should see the diesel settlement and investment in ZEV projects as an opportunity to make money in the future. The company will i.e. have to install chargers across the U.S.
