Elon Musk on why there is no deliberate promotion of the Tesla Model 3 at the moment. Essentially, the EV maker already oversold with 455,000 reservations awaiting fulfilment first before new orders are wanted.

“Tesla, indeed, has built a strong brand that requires little or no promotion for now. Tesla has taken on a life of its own.”

Michelle Krebs, senior analyst for AutoTrader, only confirms Musk’s analysis. Yet, Tesla receives about another 1,800 reservations everyday so wait time is about a year already.
