“As laws and regulations (that encourage the development of electric vehicles) come into effect in places like China and the U.S., car makers will have no choice but to roll out electric vehicles or risk going out of business.”
But EV policies do not mean demand will follow suit, Toyota chairman Takeshi Uchiyamada believes and remains skeptical given current limitations in battery technology.
“This doesn’t mean we don’t have to address unforgivable mistakes – we can’t go back to the regular agenda. But that also doesn’t mean that we have to rob the whole industry of its future.”
German chancellor Angela Merkel argues once more diesel is a necessary bridge technology – for decades – and thus continues on the path that has led to said “unforgivable mistakes” and ultimately leaves Germany at the losing end of progress.
