“We didn’t think that it was very cool to show up to fix an electric vehicle with a combustion engine van. It really bugged us.”
Tesla’s mobile service fleet consists of combustion-powered vans – but not long anymore: According to Jon McNeill, President of Global Sales and Services, Tesla is about to introduce new electric service vehicles based on the Model S and Model X cars to prove its authenticity.
“In 15 to 20 years, it‘s hard to believe if industry moved in the direction of electric-powered vehicles that the Army would not be somewhere near there. Its brigade combat team consumes 2,000 gallons of fuel per day. We’ve got to think about other ways.”
Maj. Gen. Cedric Wins, the commander of U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command, predicts that the shift to electrification won’t exclude the State’s army. In a few years, parts of its fleet could become all-electric.
