The World Rallycross Championship (World RX) wants to switch to fully electric cars in 2020. This means they will be in the leading category in less than two years.

In short, electric cars will be the world championship, according to a source cited by Autosport. Previous plans had placed the electric racer in a separate category but now they are to take over.

Fia had spoken of such plans before and already invited manufacturers to make their bids (we reported).

It is expected though that motors will not be from a single supplier and neither will the bodyshell that will sit on top of the carbon chassis. This allows for different models to enter the competition.

The new structure and rules had been set up over the course of multiple FIA Technical Working Group meetings over the last year that have included a table of manufacturers, the FIA and World RX promoter IMG.
