From intense speed to intensive care

Formula E and the FIA recently announced that the 2019/20 season will be completely suspended for at least two months due to the Covid 19 pandemic. The season finale of the E racing series is still planned for London’s ExCeL venue in July, but medical usage may prove more prudent.

Right now, the fastest things on the 100,000 sq metre ExCeL site at the Docklands are the military personnel who are setting up a provisional hospital. The venue should provide up to 4,000 beds for intensive care for Covid-19 patients. Whether the FIA will resume their original schedule with a delay or will look for a new venue for the finale will likely not be decided until the pandemic has reached a more manageable state.
