GAC Aion, the electric car subsidiary of the Chinese GAC Group, presented an electric sedan called Hyper GT with a cW value of 0.19 at the Guangzhou Auto Show. However, it will probably be almost a year before it goes on sale.

The Hyper GT is the second model of the premium Hyper brand to be unveiled in September 2022, after the Hyper SSR, and is also based on the 900-volt AEP 3.0 platform. GAC Aion has so far only announced performance key data for the single-engine version of the Hyper GT. The engine produces 250 kW and enables a maximum torque of 434 Nm. The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h should be possible in 4.9 seconds. There is no information about the size of the battery yet, but it is supposed to be able to be charged at the own charging stations with up to 480 kW or even be completely exchanged.

GAC Aion has not yet published any further technical data on the drive or the dimensions of the body. The portal “Carscoops” assumes that the Hyper GT is more similar to a Tesla Model 3 than a Model S in terms of dimensions – it would thus be a mid-size sedan.

The front end of the Hyper GT somewhat resembles that of the Tesla Model 3, but GAC Aion has gone its own way with the doors that swing open upwards – in an electric sedan, only Xpeng has previously used such doors in a special limited edition of the P7. For the rest of the body, the designers have focused primarily on flowing lines, which is intended to optimise aerodynamics. However, there is a small rear wing on the boot lid, which should help with downforce, but at the same time increases drag. At the front, similar to the Hyundai Ioniq, there are 5 variable air intakes that can be opened or closed depending on cooling requirements.

It is not yet known when exactly the Hyper GT will be launched on the market. At the trade fair, GAC Aion said that this should be the case at the end of 2023 or the beginning of 2024. There is also no confirmed information on the price yet, Carscoops mentions rumours stating that the Hyper GT could start at around 300,000 yuan (currently 41,140 euros). There is also a new statement about the Hyper SSR: the sports car is said to have passed its first performance test in mid-December and has thus entered the production validation phase.

GAC Aion wants to launch at least two new models every year and accelerate its internationalisation. By 2030, the brand aims to sell more than 1.5 million electric cars. By 2022, there should have been about 270,000 electric vehicles, according to the company’s general manager, Gu Huinan. From January to the end of November, there were 241,149 units, according to the CN EV Post, which means that the annual target of 270,000 deliveries seems realistic.
