Chargemap releases preferential Ionity rates

Chargemap has just released a new subscription that offers preferential rates for ultra-rapid charging at Ionity columns in Europe. The platform says ChargeMap Pass users may save up to 30 per cent. However, it depends.

Starting with the basics, EV drivers need an active Chargemap Pass to subscribe to the Ionity offer. Chargemap offers the first three months for €38.70, to be paid in one go; after that, it is €12.90 per month, and the contract can be cancelled anytime from that point on.

The rates released through the Ionity subscription also depend on the respective country but roughly result in savings of just under 20 cents per kWh.

In the UK, for example, using Ionity with a ChargeMap Pass comes down to 0.59 instead of the regular 0.77 GBP. In France, it is 0.53 instead of 0.72 euros/kWh with a subscription, and in the Netherlands, 0.64 instead of 0.82 euros. In Germany, 64 cents are charged per kWh instead of the regular 82 cents via Chargemap, 22 per cent less.

However, EV drivers may want to do the maths. Taking the German example and the price advantage of 18 cents per kilowatt hour, the subscription is worth it if you charge more than 72 kWh monthly with Ionity (based on the given Chargemap prices). However, higher savings may be made when using offers of some manufacturers (which usually incur charges after one year). And even with Ionity’s own subscription called Passport, the savings are more significant: for €11.99 per month (unbinding contract), the kWh price drops by 20 cents, i.e. in Germany to €0.59/kWh, so here the subscription is already worthwhile from 60 kWh per month with Ionity.

Chargemap claims the subscription pays off from three charges a month.

And there are other advantages of using the Chargemap Pass. The network allows access not only to Ionity but the charging stations of more than 800 operators in Europe; however, there are no subscriptions other than Ionity out there yet.

“The Ionity network has shaped the e-mobility landscape with its massive provision of charging stations and has become one of the preferred networks for Chargemap Pass users,” said Yoann Nussbaumer, founder and CEO of Chargemap. “I am delighted that we can now offer a tariff tailored to regular users of the Ionity network, which can be easily activated via our mobile app.”
