USA: EVgo to set up 20 charging locations in Ohio

EVgo has received 13.8 million dollars in funding to deploy 20 fast-charging stations in the US state of Ohio. All of the planned charging stations will offer 350 kW charging.

The money comes from DriveOhio, a division of the Ohio Department of Transportation. The agency awarded a total of 18 million dollars in funding in its first tranche of National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program funds to be released. EVgo and its eXtended partners thus received more than 75 per cent of the pot.

Fourteen of the 20 locations to be fitted with fast-chargers belong to EVgo eXtend partner Pilot Co. The companies did not communicate the exact locations – neither for these 14 nor for the remaining six sites.

As reported earlier this week, Ohio is the first US state to release funds from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Programme. The money will be used to open a total of 27 sites – meaning that seven sites will be developed by CPOs other than EVgo. The stations will be built along seven major state highways, including I-70, I-71, I-74, I-75, I-76, I-77. All sites will feature at least four charger ports with 150 kW each.

A second request for proposals to install an additional 16 fast chargers will follow this autumn.
