North Dakota to invest in fast-charging infrastructure

The North Dakota Department of Transportation has released a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to strategically support the development accessible, reliable, and equitable EV DC fast chargers in up to 16 communities across the state.

The NOFO will be used to distribute North Dakota’s funding pot of approximately $1.2 million from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)’s Advanced Transportation and Congestion Management Technologies Deployment (ATCMTD) Program. According to the initiators, this programme is separate from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) programme which focuses on the construction of EV charging stations located along I-94 and I-29.

“This funding opportunity helps North Dakota target investment in EV charging infrastructure in communities throughout our state,” said Russ Buchholz, NDDOT project manager. “Installing fast chargers in these communities will help reduce range anxiety for EV drivers, making North Dakota more accessible to both in-state EV drivers and out-of-state tourists.”

There is a great need around Minot as well as the north-western part of the state. I am pleased to see NorthDakota utilizing funds available. I am happy spend my money in North Dakota, but it is iffy to travel west from Minot.
