Luxembourg is to hand out around 3.7 million euros in subsidies for charge points. According to the tender, 7 million euros had already been earmarked for this financing round. It is not clear why this budget was not fully utilised. All subsidised charging stations must have an output of at least 175 kW and be powered by green electricity.

Up to 50 per cent of the investment sum is subsidised for the new charging stations. The 25 selected projects are spread across the entire territory of Luxembourg. Twenty companies, including petrol stations, shopping centres, construction companies, and industrial companies, submitted applications for the subsidy.

However, only 93 of the 273 subsidised charging stations are accessible to the public, while the majority of 180 charging stations are used privately. There was a similar distribution between private and public charging stations in previous calls for funding under the programme. The total charging capacity of the terminals is around 17 megawatts.

Lex Delles, Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, welcomed the result of the fifth call for tenders: “The remarkable level of commitment that we continue to see after the fifth call for tenders underlines the determination of companies from various sectors to commit to the decarbonisation of their economic activities. With these measures, we are making gradual progress towards the targets set out in the national energy and climate plan and improving the competitiveness of companies.”

In addition to this support programme for larger companies, there is a support scheme for small and medium-sized enterprises in Luxembourg until the end of the year. They can receive a subsidy of up to 50 per cent of the costs for charging stations and up to 60 per cent of the costs for connecting to the electricity grid. This subsidy is limited to 60,000 euros for the costs of connecting to the electricity grid and 40,000 euros for other costs associated with the provision per company.
