Colorado announces completion of six fast-charging corridors

ChargePoint and the Colorado Energy Office announced the completion of six fast-charging corridors for electric vehicles across the state. A total of 33 DC fast charging stations with more than 80 charging ports are now available.

The infrastructure project was sponsored by the state of Colorado with 12 million dollars and an additional 2 million dollars came from donations from private and local government partners. With the completion of the six fast-charging corridors, almost 80% of Colorado highways, including Highway 40, I-70, Highway 50, and Highway 550, are now within 30 miles (about 48 kilometres) of a fast charger. This doubles the amount of corridor DC fast charging in Colorado compared to when the project started in 2019.

Colorado Energy Office Executive Director Will Toor remarked that partnering with ChargePoint to install charging infrastructure across the state is essential to lay the groundwork for Colorado’s public EV fast-charging network. Toor said: “With convenient access to charging along our major transportation routes, Coloradans can now drive across the state in an electric vehicle, from the north to the south and the east to the west.”

In essence, the presence of the DC fast chargers at key travel corridors means that drivers will be able to charge quickly at convenient locations. Colorado Governor Jared Polis emphasised that the state’s growing charging station network enables EV drivers to travel confidently, knowing there will be a place to get a quick charge at the store, going to and from work, or travelling across the state. The first fast-charging corridor was completed in 2022.

In September, ChargePoint received awards of more than $19 million to deploy 248 DC fast charging ports at 45 sites along California highways.
