Volvo introduces Plug&Charge to more models in Europe
Once customers have set up the Plug&Charge function, they can start the charging process at suitable stations simply by plugging in the cable. Authentication using a charging card or app is then no longer necessary, as the vehicle and the associated payment method are automatically recognised. ‘Compatible charging stations can be easily found via Google Maps, which is part of the infotainment system’s range of functions, or via the Volvo Cars app,’ says Volvo.
This function has been available in the new EX90 since autumn 2024, but the rest of the Swedes’ BEV fleet – i.e. the small EX30 and EX40 and the EC40 SUV coupé – will also receive this feature from model year 2026.
As a second technological innovation for the 2026 model year (in this case also for the hybrid models), Volvo is bringing the new infotainment system to all model series – the EX90 and EX30 already have this system. All customers who already drive a Volvo model with an integrated Google infotainment system will also receive the updated layout via an over-the-air update – according to Volvo, this includes around 2.5 million vehicles built since 2020.
The system is based on Android Automotive and offers, for example, a new home screen for easier access to frequently used apps. The context-sensitive bar at the bottom of the screen is also intended to display shortcuts to frequently used functions depending on the menu, which only appear when they can actually be used. The digital instrument display behind the steering wheel has also been updated and now offers “a larger and clearer navigation view,” according to Volvo.
“By introducing our new-generation Volvo Car UX across our lineup, we’re working towards the aim that every Volvo model – regardless of platform and powertrain – should offer a similar user experience, providing our customers with more choices,” says Erik Severinson, Chief Product and Strategy Officer at Volvo Cars. “This roll-out is in line with our strategy to make our cars better over time with over-the-air software updates and goes hand in hand with our ambition to keep investing in our entire car lineup.”
