Xiaomi’s SU7 Ultra to hit the market at lower price

Xiaomi has launched its flagship SU7 Ultra in China. Xiaomi has massively reduced the price compared to the pre-sale launch in November: the base price of the SU7 Ultra is now 529,900 yuan (equivalent to around 70,000 euros), compared to 814,900 yuan previously.

The pre-sale price communicated in November was the equivalent of around 106,000 euros and was already considered favourable for the performance on offer at the time. How the company managed to reduce the price from 814,900 to 529,900 yuan in such a short space of time is not clear from the announcement. The standard SU7 is already considered to be very favourably priced.

The SU7 Ultra, which can now be ordered, has the same electric drive with three motors as the SU7 Ultra Prototype, which attracted attention in October with a lap time of 6:46.874 minutes on the Nordschleife. The production version also has three electric motors, including two so-called ‘Super Motor V8s’ units and one ‘Super Motor V6’ unit. The ‘Super Motor V8s’ are designed to deliver the power of a V8 petrol engine, specifically 425 kW each. At 288 kW, the ‘Super Motor V6’ is the equivalent of a V6 engine. In total, the SU7 Ultra therefore achieves 1,138 kW and up to 1,770 Nm of torque.

However, the production models will probably not quite match the prototype’s lap times: Although they have the same aerodynamic changes as the prototype, the parts are made of metal and are thus slightly heavier. The one-off tested in 2024 had a carbon fibre body and was therefore lighter than the production model.

However, Xiaomi has also announced optional extras such as the ‘Racing Package’ and the ‘Nürburgring Nordschleife Limited Edition’ at the start of ordering. Details on the scope of these optional extras are not yet available – Xiaomi will only reveal them once the production version of the SU7 Ultra has set its final lap time on the Nordschleife. It is therefore possible that the two packages will bring some lightweight construction elements and changes to the chassis to the production version after all – although presumably not the complete carbon fibre body.

With the aerodynamic kit, the SU7 Ultra is 5.12 metres long, 1.97 metres wide and 1.47 metres high, but the wheelbase is a full three metres longer than the production model. The large front splitter is intended to provide more downforce on the front axle, while the larger air intakes also improve the cooling of the high-performance engines and battery. An active diffuser is installed at the rear, which, with its two-stage setting, is intended to ensure “with two-level adaptive adjustment, balancing wind resistance and downforce, and energy efficiency for daily driving.” The 1.56-metre-wide rear spoiler, on the other hand, is not adjustable.

Xiaomi has not yet even mentioned one feature of the SU7 Ultra: to underline the exclusivity of the model, carbon fibre is also used for the brand logo on the front bonnet – and 24-carat gold.

However, the model will not be as exclusive as many other super sports cars in this performance class – also in view of the comparatively low price: Xiaomi reached its annual target for the SU7 Ultra just two hours after the order launch. As the company posted on Weibo, over 10,000 binding orders for the top version were received within 120 minutes.
