Gilbarco Veeder-Root(GVR) has a fuel technology market share of about 60 per cent in Australia. With its new offer, it wants to help petrol stations in the country future-proof their business by installing EV charging infrastructure.

The Konect offer is already available in the US and the European market. In either case, Konect offers a 600 kW power unit with two charging stations, each with two charging points. Each connector can deliver up to 400 kW and the system offers active power sharing in 50kW increments. In the US, the stations have one CCS and one NACS charger. In Europe, they are equipped with two CCS plugs.

GVR wants to help service stations become “hubs of convenience, where waiting for an electric vehicle charge is not a daunting prospect.” According to the company, the number of service stations has been reduced by two-thirds in Australia since 1970 and research suggests that 80 per cent will be unprofitable by 2035.

The press release states that the goal is to integrate EV charging with existing fueling, payment, and service offerings. The programme helps select the best locations, equipment, grants, and funding options. It also includes “installation and integration on-site sales and energy management systems, and comprehensive in-life technical support utilising GVR’s experienced field team.”

Om Shankar, Vice President & General Manager, Konect, said: “Australia is a market brimming with innovation, passion for progress, and favourable conditions primed to drive positive growth in electric-vehicle take-up in the years to come. However, fuel retailers need the right tools to make that growth a reality – and critically, to make the enterprise a profitable and sustainable one for them.”
