The Chinese electric car manufacturer Nio plans to present the Onvo L90, a large SUV with six seats, at Auto Shanghai next week. First images and technical details have now been published.

Back in February, Alan Ai, then President of Onvo, gave an initial preview of the L90 in an online event, and the company published a picture of the vehicle with camouflage film. Since then, it has been known that the L90 would be a large SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) with three rows of seats, aimed primarily at larger families. The L90 will also be the second Onvo model after the L60 presented last year.

As is customary in China, the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has published the approval application and is asking the public for feedback. This procedure is the last major regulatory hurdle before a new vehicle model is allowed to go on sale in China. As a result, the dimensions and technical details of the Onvo L90 are now known. The Onvo L90 will be officially unveiled at the Shanghai motor show starting on 23 April and officially launched on the market in the third quarter.

The Onvo L90 is therefore 5.15 metres long, 2 metres wide and 1.77 or 1.79 metres high, depending on the configuration. The wheelbase is 3.11 metres. The car has three rows of seats with a total of six seats. The L90 is thus likely to compete with the Li Auto L9 or Aito M9 models.

The kerb weight of the Onvo L90 is between 2,250 kg and 2,385 kg, whereby the different values are probably due to the battery change support, which makes it possible to transport battery packs of different weights, as the Chinese specialised service CNevPost assumes.

Regarding technical specifications, the Onvo L90 will initially be available in two versions with different engine power. The single-engine version has a rear engine with a peak output of 340 kW, while the twin-engine version has an additional engine in the front with a peak output of 100 kW. The vehicle reaches a top speed of 200 kilometres per hour.

The new Onvo president, Shen Fei, said on Weibo that the new SUV will be equipped with a battery pack with a capacity of 85 kWh as standard. This is different from the first Onvo model L60, which comes with a 60 kWh battery as standard, while the 85 kWh battery is an optional long-range battery pack.

In March, Onvo sold 4,049 cars, falling short of its target of 20,000 units. As a result, the CEO of Onvo, Alan Ai, resigned and was replaced by the head of Nio Power, Shen Fei. The Nio Group has set itself a sales target of 440,000 vehicles for 2025, 220,000 of which are from Onvo.
