Change in management at BYD Germany

BYD has appointed Lars Bialkowski as the new Country Manager Germany with effect from 1 June 2025. The appointment of the former Stellantis manager is said to be a ‘milestone’ for the Chinese manufacturer's German management team.

The 53-year-old Bialkowski was most recently Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Stellantis in Germany before Opel CEO Florian Huettl also took over the management of all Stellantis brands in Germany in December 2024 as part of the replacement of some management positions, and Bialkowski left the Group. He had previously worked at Nissan and Renault.

“With Lars Bialkowski, we are setting another milestone in strengthening our management team for BYD in Germany. I am very pleased to have a country manager with proven 360-degree expertise on board who can contribute his experience to us perfectly. The work of Lars Bialkowski and his team guarantees not only our customers but also our dealers the necessary continuity in the work we started a few months ago,” says Maria Grazia Davino, SVP Regional Managing Director at BYD Europe, who herself joined BYD from Stellantis. “With Lars, we will continue and further accelerate our growth trajectory in Germany.”

Things have recently started to pick up again for BYD in Germany. After a weak year in 2024, the manufacturer recorded 2,793 new registrations in the first four months of the year – almost as many as in the entire previous year. With the recently presented Dolphin Surf small electric car starting at a promotional price of 19,990 euros, sales could continue to rise. You can read our impressions of the first drive here.

BYD has recently reorganised its management in Germany. In February, SAIC manager Patrick Schulz was appointed Sales Director for the first time in Germany. And it was only at the end of May that it was announced that Hyundai manager Kai Schröder would be joining BYD to expand the Chinese manufacturer’s dealer network. By the end of the year, European boss Davino is aiming for 120 points of sale in Germany.
