Ignitis receives loan for 600 new fast chargers in Baltics
The loan for the expansion of charging infrastructure will be granted for a period of ten years. The Group also secured the right to a grant of up to €3.78m under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) via the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility (AFIF) funding line. However, total costs are expected to reach up to €76m euros.
Ignitis subsidiary ‘Ignitis On’ will be responsible for setting up the charging infrastructure. However, it’s unclear how the planned 600 fast-charging stations will be distributed across the three Baltic states. There’s also no information yet on the number of charging points per column or the specific charging capacity. What is certain, however, is that part of the infrastructure will be built along the corridors of the trans-European transport network (TEN-T).
Ignitis On announced back in February that it had received a grant of €16m euros from the AFIF along the trans-European transport network within three years. Whether these 222 stations will be installed in addition to the 600 fast-charging stations that have now been funded or whether they are already included in the funding remains unclear at this point in time.
With the planned new fast chargers, Ignitis’ charging network is set to grow significantly. It is already estimated to have tripled in 2024 alone, and at the end of Q1 2025, the company had 1286 charging points for EVs in operation across the whole Baltic region.
