DPD to build seven new eco-ready parcel hubs in the UK
DPD will invest the equivalent of €390 million in seven purpose-built distribution centres aimed at bolstering its electric delivery network. The new facilities, each spanning 60,000 square feet, will enhance DPD’s parcel processing capacity and reinforce the company’s commitment to electrification and sustainability, the CEP provider states on its website.
All sites will be fully equipped with EV charging infrastructure to accommodate the firm’s growing electric van fleet.
“With 38% of our delivery van fleet already electric, these facilities will be served by increasing numbers of electric vehicles, making them more sustainable operations, and helping us move towards our Net Zero targets,” said Tim Jones, Director of Marketing, Communications & Sustainability at DPDgroup UK.
Construction on the first two sites, namely in Crawley and Darlington, is scheduled to begin this year. Cambridge, Bradford, Guildford, Milton Keynes, and Sittingbourne will follow in 2026, with all seven operational by early 2027. Each hub will feature advanced automation and will be capable of handling up to 80,000 parcels per day.
The investment will also mark a milestone for DPD, delivering its 50th new-build regional depot as part of its long-term network upgrade programme. “Our 50th new depot will be a landmark moment with the majority of our regional sorting centres having been replaced and upgraded,” said Jones. “
As recently deported, DPD is not jut electrifying its delivery van fleet. The parcels delivery service is currently also testing the all-electric MAN eTGX on a dedicated route in the UK.
