The Dutch companies Rocsys, which specialises in robotic charging solutions for electric vehicles, and ICT Group have partnered to accelerate the deployment of hands-free charging for autonomous electric vehicles in ports and logistics. The partners successfully integrated the Rocsys API with ICT Group’s Smart Equipment Control System (Smart ECS), enabling seamless communication between vehicle task management and charging processes. The solution optimises charge scheduling with minimal manual intervention, supporting operational efficiency and scalability.

“Collaboration is essential as the momentum behind electric and autonomous vehicles continues to accelerate,” said Crijn Bouman, CEO & Co-founder of Rocsys. “By working with strong partners like ICT Group, we’re delivering scalable, future-proof solutions that are ready for operational deployment. […] Our hands-free charging solution lays the foundation for a fully automated, zero-emission future in ports and logistics.”

Rocsys has been developing its autonomous charging platform, which is based on robotics and AI-based computer vision, since 2019. The idea is for a robot to be capable of plugging and unplugging the charging cables and carrying out the entire process automatically, without any human intervention.

Rocsys says its platform combines intelligent hardware, intuitive software, and proactive services to enable hands-free charging from day one. Built on open standards, it supports any EV type, charger brand, or IT infrastructure, facilitating integration with systems like ICT Group’s Smart ECS.

Karim Henkens, CEO of ICT Group, added: “This is not just a technical integration, it’s a strategic step toward accelerating the digital and sustainable transformation of ports and logistics. […] By connecting our Smart ECS with Rocsys’ hands-free charging platform, we’re enabling operators to seamlessly integrate electric and autonomous vehicles into daily operations. It’s a scalable solution that enables smarter, safer, and more efficient charging with minimal manual intervention.”

Rocsys has designed its solution in way, that it can be used for electric cars, trucks, and, for example, self-driving vehicles for port operations. The company is part of a recently announced MCS project in Europe, where its automated solution could allow truck drivers to rest during the charging process, instead of having to exit the vehicle or interrupt their break to plug in and out.

And in February, the Dutch company won a major order in the Netherlands, as it will supply 30 automated terminal trucks with power in the APM container terminal Maasvlakte II in the port of Rotterdam.
