Alpine launches A290 Rallye as its first electric rally car for customers

Alpine has unveiled the A290 Rallye, its first-ever electric rally car designed for customer racing, ahead of its debut at the Rallye Rouergue Rodez Aveyron Occitanie. The model marks the brand’s 70th anniversary with a clear focus on carbon-neutral competition.

Developed by the Viry-Châtillon teams and assembled at the Manufacture Alpine Dieppe Jean Rédélé competition workshop, the A290 Rallye is based on the standard A290 chassis, adapted for rallying with specific suspension, ALP Racing Suspension shock absorbers, and special 8 x 18” EVO Corse wheels fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport A tyres.

The drivetrain features a 160 kW electric motor delivering 300 Nm to the front axle via a ZF limited-slip differential. The battery offers a capacity of 52 kWh (400 V DC). Braking performance is ensured by front 6-piston monoblock callipers with 350 mm discs and rear single-piston callipers with 280 mm discs, combined with a hydraulic handbrake and Alpine Racing’s rally ABS system.

“The A290 is now in the starting blocks,” says Alpine, positioning the car as a gateway to electric competition within one-make cups and open events. A single-rally challenge will launch in France before the end of 2025 for initial customer teams, supported by Alpine’s high-level technical expertise, bespoke recharging infrastructure, and specific prizes.

The interior meets FIA safety standards with a welded roll cage and Sabelt bucket seats, while the electronic management system is optimised for competitive EV use. The car also features an innovative sound system correlating speed and throttle input for enhanced driver and spectator experience.

Priced at €59,990 excluding VAT for a complete, assembled, and painted car, the A290 Rallye will appear next at the Goodwood Festival of Speed from 10 to 13 July, followed by the Rallye Mont-Blanc Morzine in September. The EV is thus also significantly cheaper than the Renault 5 Turbo E3, an electric revamp of the Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2, two popular rally cars in the 1980s. The latter starts €155,000. Alpine describes its new electric rally offering as “a genuine gateway to electric competition,” carrying forward the marque’s legacy into a carbon-neutral future.
