Tata Motors recently rolled off the first unit of the Harrier.ev from its domestic plant in Pune, Maharashtra. The company painted the milestone vehicle in the model’s signature colour – Nainital Nocturne, a deep blue shade inspired by a popular hill station in the northern state of Uttarakhand.

The carmaker unveiled the electric SUV in June. A week before starting series production, Tata Motors also released the complete pricing of the Harrier.ev. The company offers the new electric SUV in eight configurations, from 2.149 million rupees (approximately 21,000 euros) to 2.974 million rupees (approximately 30,000 euros). It does provide a 7.2 AC home charger, but for an extra 49,000 rupees (approximately 500 euros) over the vehicle price.

Tata Motors originally modified JLR’s D8 platform to launch the Harrier with an internal combustion engine in 2019 and has now further modified it to introduce the fully electric Harrier.ev. While the donor vehicle features a front-wheel drive layout, its electric derivative has a rear-biased setup. The company has launched it in single-motor RWD and dual-motor AWD variants.

The RWD variant of the Harrier.ev features a permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 175 kW and 315 Nm of torque. Customers can specify this variant with a 65 kWh LFP battery pack that delivers a range of 538 km or a 75 kWh LFP battery pack that allows them to travel 627 km without a charging stop.

In the AWD variant, Tata Motors combines an induction motor that generates 116 kW and 164 Nm of torque in the front with the 175 kW/315 Nm permanent magnet synchronous motor in the rear. This allows the Harrier.ev AWD to accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in just 6.3 seconds. Moreover, while the RWD variant offers a gradeability of 28%, the AWD variant can climb grades of up to 47%. The 75 kWh LFP battery pack is standard in the latter, and it delivers a range of 622 km, just five kilometres less than in the former.

Tata Motors says the 65 kWh battery pack takes around 25 minutes for a 20-80% charging session through a 100 kW charger, and the 75 kWh battery pack the same with a 120 kW charger. The company offers a lifetime, unlimited-kilometre warranty on both battery packs for the first owners with private registrations, underscoring its confidence in long-term reliability.
