New Flyer buses for New York county
This order adds to the 73 New Flyer Xcelsior hybrid-electric 35-foot buses already in service at Suffolk County Transit. It includes 40 CHARGE NG battery-electric buses plus 92 Xcelsior hybrid-electrics. New Flyer will reportedly support the transit authority on parts, infrastructure, workforce development and financing, although no details of new chargers for example have yet been provided. Additionally, no financial details have been shared by the brand or a more specific timeline for the delivery and operation of the buses.
In a statement, New Flyer – an NFI brand – said: “By once again choosing New Flyer’s proven platform, Suffolk is investing in efficient operations, streamlined maintenance, and supporting in high-quality manufacturing jobs here in the US.”
NFI’s president of North American Bus and Coach, Chris Stoddart, added: “This order underscores the value of our platform’s flexibility and dependability. New Flyer’s common Xcelsior platform enables agencies to operate hybrid and battery-electric buses with shared parts, tools, and training – delivering real operational savings while maintaining consistent, high-quality performance.”
New Flyer specifically is the heavy-duty bus brand that sits under NFI, which also owns Alexander Dennis, MCI, Plaxton, Arboc – all covering large transport vehicles ranging from double decker buses to motorcoaches.
