Finland to receive 106 electric buses from BYD

BYD is expanding its electric buses to Finland for the first time with a significant order. The operator Nobina has ordered a total of 106 electric buses from BYD, 64 of which are destined for the capital Helsinki and 42 for the city of Turku, including a new model from the Chinese manufacturer.

EMT orders 20 Irizar electric buses for Madrid

The Madrid public transport operator EMT has ordered another 20 electric buses from Irizar. This brings the number of electrically powered Irizar buses in service with EMT to 55. The contract also includes the supply of 20 chargers with a capacity of 100 kW each.

HEAG mobilo orders 24 eCitaro buses for Darmstadt

In Germany, the Darmstadt transport company HEAG mobilo has ordered 24 eCitaro electric buses from the Daimler subsidiary EvoBus including eleven solo and 13 articulated buses. The fleet should arrive at the Böllenfalltor depot from the third quarter of 2021 and replace older diesel vehicles.

Szczecin orders 8 articulated Solaris e-buses

The Polish city of Szczecin has ordered eight articulated electric buses from Solaris. The 18-metre electric buses will be delivered to the local bus company SPAK until September 2021. The order is worth the equivalent of around eight million euros.

Proterra presents the ZX5 electric bus

The US manufacturer Proterra presented its latest electric bus model, the ZX5. The electric bus is being offered in two length variants of 35 feet (10.7 metres) and 40 feet (12.2 metres) with 29 and 40 seats respectively.

Volvo Buses is providing the batteries from its electric buses with a second life as stationary storage on a large scale. Following individual pilot projects, Volvo Buses has now concluded an agreement with Batteryloop, that covers all batteries for the manufacturer’s electric buses worldwide.

Volvo receives electric bus order from the Arctic Circle

The northern Norwegian city of Bodø has ordered 31 electric buses from Volvo. The contract also covers the charging infrastructure and maintenance. When the buses go into service in July 2021, they will be the northernmost electric buses in the world and the first to be put into operation north of the Arctic Circle.

Israel funds electric buses with 11.7 million euros

Israel’s Ministry of the Environment has announced subsidies of 47 million shekels (around 11.7 million euros) for the purchase of 200 new electric buses by public transport companies. This is in addition to the 80 electric buses that have been subsidised to date.

A large vehicle-to-grid project with electric buses has now been launched at a bus depot in North London. The Bus2Grid project is testing V2G systems with an initial 28 electric double-decker buses with which more than 1 MW of energy can be fed back into the grid.
