Subaru to bring the ‘Uncharted’ electric crossover to Europe

Subaru is launching its third electric model, the Uncharted, at the beginning of 2026. It will nnot only debut in the USA, but also in European markets. However, the compact SUV coupé is not an in-house development, but is technically based on the Toyota C-HR+.

Subaru has been rather hesitant to electrify its model range in recent years. The Solterra, which went on sale in 2022, has had to go it alone for years, but now the manufacturer has presented two new electric models, which will not only be launched on the American market, which is more important for Subaru, but also in Europe at the beginning of 2026. This has now been announced by the Japanese manufacturer.

It started with the Trailseeker mid-size SUV, which will be marketed in this country under the more familiar name ‘Outback’ and celebrated its US premiere at the New York Auto Show in April. At the same time, the car manufacturer also unveiled the facelift of the Solterra. Now comes the new Uncharted, which completes Subaru’s all-electric trio and competes in the compact class.

While the Trailseeker or e-Outback with its estate-like design is intended to appeal to Subaru fans looking to drive a bit more adventurously, the Uncharted is more of an SUV coupé and is tailored to an urban target group. The technical basis for the newcomer to the Subaru programme is provided by the Toyota C-HR+, the all-electric version of the compact crossover, which is also due to be launched in Europe at the end of 2025 and is technically closely related to the recently revised bZ4X.

As the Solterra is based on the latter and uses the ‘eTNGA’ platform, the two electric Subaru models are also very similar. The two Japanese manufacturers entered into a cooperation in 2019 to reduce development and production costs for their upcoming electric models.

Subaru will offer the Uncharted in three drive configurations, all of which draw their energy from a 74.4 kWh NMC battery. The following details all refer to the US version: The base model, called ‘Premium FWD’, is the first Subaru front-wheel drive model in years. This version has 165 kW and is said to travel 300 miles, or the equivalent of 492 kilometres, on a single charge. The Uncharted with front-wheel drive will only play a minor role in terms of numbers compared to the all-wheel drive versions.

The Uncharted AWD Sport and the Uncharted AWD GT, both of which feature the brand’s typical all-wheel drive and a system output of 252 kW, are set to win over regular customers. These twin-motor variants are said to be able to sprint from 0 to 100 kph in around five seconds and have a range of 290 miles (around 467 kilometres). Subaru specifies the maximum charging power of the Uncharted at 150 kW, meaning that the charge level can be increased from 10 to 80 per cent in half an hour. Thanks to a standard NACS connection, American owners of Subaru’s new electric model can also use Tesla’s Supercharger network.

Visually, the crossover cannot deny its relationship to the Toyota C-HR+, especially in its profile. However, Subaru’s design department has at least given the crossover an independent rear end and the typical brand face. There are also many parallels to the compact Toyota in the interior of the Uncharted. The cockpit is dominated by a 14-inch touchscreen, while there is another display behind the ‘steering wheel’ for driving information, which is almost square. Subaru has not yet published exact prices, but it can be assumed that they will be at a similar level to those of the Toyota C-HR+. It is likely to start at just under 40,000 euros, as Subaru writes: “UK Pricing and confirmed specifications will be announced closer to the time of launch.”
