Nissan teams up with Octopus Energy for charging app
Octopus’ Electroverse itself claims to provide access to around 80 per cent of chargers in Europe. It covers brands including IONITY, Allego, Aral Pulse, Fastned, TotalEnergies and more across 40 countries. Typically, Octopus users have a charging card and an app that enables them to use these EV chargers. What Nissan has done is integrate this network into its own charging app and charging card, meaning Nissan customers can access the Electroverse network as if they were Octopus customers.
Nissan states that the ‘Electroverse’ adds 500 chargers to its platform every day, and that these are all accessible using the app’s discovery tool. The typical features you’d expect of a charging app are all there: charge point discovery, dynamic pricing, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and more.
Soufiane El Khomri, Director of Nissan Energy, called it an ‘important step’ to making EVs more accessible. El Khomri said: “By introducing future-ready features, we’re not only helping drivers connect to Europe’s vast charging network, but we’re also laying the foundation for EVs to play an active role in the energy system of tomorrow. It aligns perfectly with our electrification journey, from our EV36Zero initiative to the exciting arrival of our next-generation models like the all-new MICRA and LEAF.”
Meanwhile, Matt Davies, Director of Octopus Electroverse, said it was the first time that Octopus’ Electroverse technology had been integrated into another brand’s charging app. He said: “By bringing our cutting-edge technology into the Nissan Charge app, we’re delivering the best of Electroverse – simple access to 80% of all chargers across Europe, money-saving discounts, and quick, hassle-free payments.”
