Colorado announces new grant for DC charging infrastructure

The Colorado Energy Office has announced $5 million in grant awards through the Direct-Current Fast-Charging (DCFC) Plazas program. The funding for the grants comes exclusively from state funding, will create 56 new fast charging ports across nine sites across the state.

This is the seventh round of awards for this program. The initiators add that in total, these additions will increase Colorado’s existing public fast charging network of more than 1,400 ports by approximately 4%.

“Colorado is proud of our work to increase the availability and affordability of electric vehicles in our state, and supporting infrastructure is an important part of that work,” said Colorado’s Governor Jared Polis, adding: “These grants will help expand charging stations for Coloradans and visitors who travel throughout our state. Despite the Trump administration continuing to increase costs and go against the market-driven transition that many Coloradans are making to electric vehicles, Colorado continues doing our part to lead the way and save people money.”

Colorado’s infrastructure grant program has completed 13 sites with charging stations in the Front Range, Eastern Plains, and Western Slope, including communities like Montrose, Frisco, Pueblo, Cortez, Longmont, Seibert and Limon. This round’s grant awardees include Helios Charging, eCAMION USA,
Electric Era Technologies and Tesla.

Interestingly enough, around the same time, the White House announced that it would release the frozen billions in funding for the charging infrastructure programme NEVI, which Congress has already approved, at least.

Colorado announced the completion of six charging corridors last December, making for a total of 33 DC fast charging stations with more than 80 charging ports. The first fast-charging corridor was completed in 2022.
