VinFast to install 150,000 battery-swapping stations in Vietnam
As early as October this year, VinFast will install the first 1,000 battery-swapping stations. With continued momentum, the company aims to expand the network to 50,000 outlets by the end of the year and reach the ultimate target of 150,000 stations by 2028.
VinFast says its network will be many times larger than the number of fossil-fuel stations in the country. The company expects widespread availability to address concerns over charging wait times and make electric two-wheelers more appealing to customers still using petrol scooters.
The homegrown EV maker says its battery-swappable electric two-wheelers will offer the same features as standard models. They will have two compartments for 1.5 kWh batteries, allowing customers who require more range to use two batteries simultaneously. Each battery delivers a range of up to 85 km, depending on the model.
VinFast will charge a monthly rental of 200,000 dong (€6.55) per battery and a swapping fee of 9,000 dong (€0.29). The company will launch its first battery-swappable scooter, the ‘Evo Max’, in October at 20 million dong (€655). Three more models—Feliz Max, Verox Max, and Drift Max—will follow this year, priced at 24.9 million dong (€815), 33.9 million dong (€1,110), and 39.9 million dong (€1,306), respectively.
For customers with current electric two-wheelers that include the battery and do not support swapping, VinFast offers free charging at all V-Green public charging stations across Vietnam until 31 May 2027.
