Mazda launches European charging app
The app is rolling out across Europe this month, and according to Mazda, will provide access to “hundreds of thousands” of public charging points across Europe – although it’s not clear which networks this will encompass or what types of chargers will be available. The app was delivered by the Zurich-based autoSense AG, and this is reflected in the headline claim that users will have access to around 20,000 charging points across Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
The app is available on iOS or Android, and provides real-time information on charging station availability, power output, and pricing. Drivers can use the app to book and pay for charging with a variety of payment options. Mazda says it also plans to make an RFID charging card available for non-smartphone charging.
Jaap Vossen, CEO of autoSense AG, said: “We are proud to be able to offer Mazda Charging, one of the most attractive commercial and technical solutions in the field of electric mobility, in our home country of Switzerland. This partnership with Mazda is an important step toward strengthening our presence in European markets.”
“Charging your Mazda should feel just as effortless as driving it,” said Martijn ten Brink, CEO, Mazda Motor Europe. “With Mazda Charging, an app will be launched that’s intuitive, convenient, and integrated into Mazda customers’ everyday journeys.”
Earlier this summer, electrive reviewed the Mazda6e, which the app is launching alongside. Editor Sebastian Schaal found it to have “smart design, high-quality build, and extensive equipment”, adding that it “clearly shows electrification has arrived at the heart of the Mazda model range.”
