Iberdrola | bp pulse installs chargers at 59 Alimerka supermarkets
The project will see 238 ultra-fast charging points installed across the car parks of 59 supermarkets in northern Spain, with 42 in Asturias, 15 in Castilla y León, and two in Lugo. The chargers will offer different power levels, but all will be high-power charging (HPC) stations, typically providing at least 150 kW.
The partners say that Alimerka customers will be able to add up to 100 kilometres of range in just three minutes or fully charge their vehicles during a shopping visit in up to 45 minutes. However, such estimates depend on the vehicle’s charging capability and battery size.
While Iberdrola has recently entered standalone partnerships, such as in Murcia or the Madrid suburb of Leganés, the Alimerka project is a collaboration with the Iberdrola | bp pulse joint venture, established in 2023 to expand charging infrastructure in Spain and Portugal.
Together, the partners have already installed 1,400 fast-charging points, including 400 added in the first half of this year. Adding Iberdrola’s individually operated points brings the total to 2,600 fast chargers. Including slower AC chargers, the combined network reaches 9,600 public charging points operated by Iberdrola and Iberdrola | bp pulse.
Paula Díaz-Caneja Gutiérrez, Head of Environmental Affairs at Alimerka, said: “For Alimerka, this initiative is another sign of our commitment to sustainable mobility and to our customers. This agreement will enable us to have many more charging points for electric vehicles at our supermarkets, offering a very practical service and improving their shopping experience.”
Pablo Pirles, Managing Director of Iberdrola | bp pulse, added: “Thanks to agreements like this, we can continue to make progress towards our goal of ensuring that the charging infrastructure is where it’s really needed. Making it easy for people to quickly charge their electric vehicles while they shop is a clear example of how decarbonising mobility offers simple, accessible solutions that are within everyone’s reach.”
