Monta joins ChargeUK to accelerate the UK’s EV transition
Monta, which specialises in EV charging software, says its membership underlines its commitment to open, interoperable and intelligent charging. The company already operates a growing charging platform across Europe with over half a million users and plans to contribute technical expertise to UK policy and infrastructure development.
“With less than five years until the 2030 deadline, the UK EV sector is at a pivotal moment. Being part of ChargeUK will allow Monta to collaborate with other members to help shape policy, unlock more investment and expand access to quality EV charging,” said Jon Evans, Head of Market, UK & Ireland at Monta.
“Having Monta onboard is yet another example of the desire within the EV industry to come together and support the transition to EVs by ensuring that convenient and affordable charging is rolled out at pace,” said Vicky Reid, CEO of ChargeUK.
“The UK is heading in the right direction on EV adoption; however, the real challenge lies in the software layer that connects and optimises charging. Without scalable, data-led systems, infrastructure will not keep up with demand,” Evans concluded.
ChargeUK was founded in 2023 by initially 18 companies that committed to invest more than six billion pounds in EV charging infrastructure in the UK by 2030 – the phase-out date for combustion engines in the country.
According to the press release, ChargeUK has since more than doubled its membership, bringing together companies such as Tesla, Ionity, BP Pulse, Shell Recharge and TotalEnergies. The association works with government and industry partners on investment and regulation to accelerate EV adoption.
Monta was founded in 2020 and has grown rapidly in recent years. Last year, the company received 80 million euros from investors and began its expansion into the US. Among other things, its platform supports hardware manufacturers in optimising their products by enabling benchmarking of charging stations, providing insights into usage and performance and shortening the time from troubleshooting to maintenance.
