Be.EV opens first ultra-fast charging hub in London
Be.EV has stated that it intends to invest over £2.5 million to install a total of 30 new charging bays across the four hubs. The first charging station has already been installed at the Crown Hotel in London. The installation at the Crown Hotel site also marks a major milestone for Be.EV, as it will be the company’s 300th installed ultra-rapid charge point. The other sites are to follow soon and will be installed near Croydon, Dartford and Watford.
Asif Ghafoor, CEO of Be.EV said: “London is crying out for reliable, accessible EV charging – and this expansion is about meeting that demand head-on. We’re helping to future-proof the city by putting chargers where people need them most: close to homes, shops and leisure destinations.”
“On-site EV charging is becoming a clear differentiator in the hospitality sector, shifting from a nice-to-have to an essential service,” explained Grish Grover, CEO and Managing Director, AG Hotels Group. “Partnering with Be.EV will allow us to meet the expectations of a growing number of travellers with EVs while also attracting new customers from the local community. It’s a strategic step that strengthens our sustainability agenda and ensures our hotels remain competitive as travel behaviours evolve.”
Be.EV was founded in 2019 in Manchester and has since grown to encompass the entire UK. The company is also involved in the charging lobby group ChargeUK, which was launched in 2023. That also marked the year in which Be.EV expanded to the Midlands and Trafford with its charging network. The first ultra-fast charging station was also installed in Manchester in the same year. This year, a ‘charging oasis’ was also opened in Manchester, worth an impressive £4 million and hosting 12 parking bays with six fast chargers capable of delivering up to 300kW.
Currently, Be.EV’s charging network encompasses over 750 live charging bays, a number which is planned to reach 1,600 by the end of 2025. While the plan is ambitious, it is backed by £110 million from majority shareholder Octopus Energy Generation and another £55 million from lenders NatWest and KfW IPEX-Bank.
