Changan Deepal S07 launches in UK from £39,990

Changan announced this spring that it would launch in Europe. First with the Deepal S07 and later with the smaller Deepal S05. The former is now officially available in the UK.

The model features a 160kW rear-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor that generates 320 Nm of torque. The 79.97kWh battery (presumably with NCM cells from CALB) supports DC, though Changan does not specify the capacity. It only says that it takes 35 minutes to recharge the battery from 30 to 80 per cent at the fast-charger.

In China, there is also a variant with a 69 kWh battery from CATL. It offers a range of up to 520 kilometres, albeit according to the Chinese testing cycle, which tends to be higher than WLTP. Just for context: According to the CLTC, the Deepal S07 with the larger 80 kWh battery can go up to 628 kilometres between charges.

For the roll-out in Europe, Changan is relying on a stationary dealer network. will initially be available through 20 dealerships, expanding to 50 by the end of 2025. A UK parts hub and aftersales operation will support the rollout.

According to AM online, the Deepal S07 was designed at Changan’s European centre in Turin and engineered at the Birmingham R&D facility. The report also states that the vehicle has undergone more than 150 adaptations for UK conditions.

The Deepal S07 combines a tech-heavy interior with practical features such as a panoramic roof, vegan leather seats, and a full driver assistance suite. Vehicle-to-load functionality allows the car to power external appliances, adding versatility for consumers. The launch reinforces the growing presence of Chinese EV brands in the UK, positioning Changan alongside competitors such as BYD, Chery, and Geely.
