Compleo exits UK charging market
No details have yet been shared on how many jobs will be affected, but Compleo’s parent company, Kostal, confirmed to Fleet News that operation at the UK arm of Compleo have ended. This follows months of difficulties for the manufacturer in Germany and elsewhere. A spokesperson for Compleo said: “After careful consideration, our parent company, Kostal, has made the decision to cease operations of Compleo Charging Solutions UK with immediate effect.”
They added that the UK team will continue to provide ‘full’ customer support “in the short term”, but that this will eventually transition to the company’s head office in Germany, which will then handle all warranty issues and service requests. The spokesperson reportedly said that the company is “working on the details” of how this handover process will work, and that all customers will shortly be informed.
No specific reason for Compleo’s UK withdrawal has been provided, although the country’s charging market has not developed exactly as hoped. While Compleo also offers fast chargers, the company is primarily active in the AC sector, offering wallboxes to private customers, as well as more comprehensive solutions for fleet charging.
Compleo UK receive a major contract in this area as recently as February, but in the UK, this market segment is challenging; in July, energy giant BP Pulse withdrew from the UK fleet charging market to refocus exclusively on fast charging hubs.
One silver lining is that Compleo’s former software division, which has operated as Vaylens under the Kostal Group since summer 2024, will remain ‘unaffected’ by Compleo’s UK exit.
