Lucid to expand dealership network in Germany
So far, Lucid only has its own showrooms, called Lucid Studios, in Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich. There are also two locations in Switzerland, one in France and one in the Netherlands.
So it’s time for Lucid to change something in its sales strategy, especially since the Californian company is treading water in terms of new registrations in Germany. Between January and August 2025, only 136 new Lucid vehicles hit the roads in Germany, 13 of which were Lucid Gravity models, which are not due to be delivered in Germany until early 2026. In other words, these are obviously test or demonstration vehicles.
These figures are clearly too low for a premium brand with global aspirations that wants to compete with Mercedes & Co in the motherland of the automobile. Lucid, therefore, now wants to supplement its existing direct sales with partnerships with established car dealers. “As a first step, we want to be represented in twelve to 15 cities,” Lucid’s European boss Lawrence Hamilton told the German publication Automobilwoche. Lucid is therefore looking for small to medium-sized car dealership groups with a well-established sales territory as partners.
There are plans to have a total of around 15 partners, with the sales network growing to 50 to 60 locations in Germany. “We are giving dealers the opportunity to develop further,” said Hamilton: a car dealership group could start at one location and open more if successful. The investment required by dealers should be kept to a minimum: Lucid wants to offer them a shop-in-shop system. In other words, there is no need to open new car dealerships; instead, Lucid can be presented as an additional brand in existing car dealerships. Lucid also wants to rely on partner dealers in other European countries in the future.
In addition to the number of sales outlets, the product portfolio is certainly also crucial to success: so far, Lucid is only known in Europe for its luxurious Lucid Air electric sedan, which starts at $69,900 in the USA.
Now, the Lucid Gravity electric SUV is also joining the line-up, having recently celebrated its European premiere at the IAA Mobility. The starting price announced in Germany stands €116,900 for the Grand Touring variant, with a cheaper Touring version for €99,900 to follow.
Lucid Motors has been gearing up production and material supply chains across the planet, for example, working together with Alaska Energy Metals, Graphite One, Electric Metals, and RecycLiCo in the USA. A deal to access Tesla’s Superchargers was also established recently. In July, the company reported its third consecutive delivery increase by quarter.
