The energy company TotalEnergies and Banque des Territoires have announced an ‘investment platform to support the expansion of charging infrastructure in France.’ The aim is to build charging points in municipalities and at local authorities.

This investment platform will be majority-owned by TotalEnergies, specifically 51 per cent. The remaining 49 per cent will be held by Banque des Territoires. According to the announcement, the partners want to use the platform to support municipalities and local authorities in their projects. For example, concessions that are already under construction or operated by TotalEnergies in several large French cities are to be further developed. And new charging concession projects are to follow in response to regional requirements.

TotalEnergies, an energy group based in France, is already active in the local charging market and describes itself as a “major player in the field of electric mobility in France.” TotalEnergies currently operates around 30,000 charging points nationwide, “including almost 4,500 in public concessions in metropolitan areas and suburbs.” The group therefore intends to “use its expertise to support the growth of the investment platform and to build, operate and maintain a network of public charging infrastructure.” However, no specific expansion targets are mentioned.

Banque des Territoires has been active in the field of electromobility since 2022 and, according to its own figures, has ‘mobilised over €500 million in equity and quasi-equity’ during this period. Banque des Territoires intends to contribute its expertise in financing public projects to the new platform. This is in line with its strategic plan, “which aims to accelerate ecological transformation projects in local authorities and the transition of regions to low-carbon mobility.”

“We are delighted to be partnering with Banque des Territoires to strengthen the territorial network and diversify the locations of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles,” said Mathieu Soulas, Director of New Mobility at TotalEnergies. “TotalEnergies is already a major player in the field of electric mobility in France and, through this partnership, intends to support local authorities in providing accessible and efficient charging solutions for their users.”

“With TotalEnergies, we are making low-carbon mobility, a powerful lever for social cohesion and ecological change, accessible to as many people as possible and in all regions,” explains François Wohrer, Investment Director at Banque des Territoires.
